Do bacteria that feed on plastics while growing without oxygen exist? And are bioplastics safer in terms of microplastic release into the environment?

In this master’s thesis project, you will join a research initiative investigating the fate of (bio)plastics in oxygen-free environments, such as biogas and biofertilizer production facilities.

The work includes: Analyzing the potential presence of plastic-degrading microorganisms in these systems using DNA sequencing techniques.Checking whether bioplastics fully degrade or leave behind microplastics through advanced chemical analyses.
